- It is intended, first and foremost, for members
of the SFO (possible to visit in the morning between 1000 and 1300,
by appointment only) and, according to the space available, to professionals
and students in optometry and orthoptics, researchers, historians,
translators, film makers… who are interested in ophthalmology.
- It contains a very comprehensive collection of books, old and new
(more than 2500 works from the XIXth, XXth and XXIst centuries)
covering all the fields of ophthalmology. Encyclopedias and textbooks
are also available to readers.
- Moreover, the Bibliothèque Javal receives the majority of
ophthalmological journals published worldwide: the library subscribes
to 60 journals at present and 12 others are received in an exchange
with other international societies of ophthalmology.
- In the reading room, 2 computer stations allow access to the Internet,
particularly to Medline to put together bibliographies on the spot.
