GRANTS FOR TRAVEL AND COURSES

They are awarded within the framework of Franco-German cooperation between the SFO and the DOG (Deutsche Ophthalmologische Gesellschaft). The SFO/DOG joint commission has set as its objective the strengthening of co-operation between the French and German teams. Each of the two annual meetings organised respectively by the Société Française d'Ophtalmologie, in May in Paris, and the Deutsche Ophthalmologische Gesellschaft, in September in Berlin, are accompanied by a joint scientific symposium in which the principal invited speakers take part.

Travel Grants:

It is greatly hoped that young French ophthalmologists will submit requests to the SFO for private papers on the scientific subject specified for the Franco-German symposium of the DOG, which is held in September each year in Berlin. It is imperative this demand is submitted before the SFO Conference in May in order to be selected and then published in the programme for the DOG Conference. Work showing real Franco-German cooperation is particularly welcome. From amongst the papers received the SFO/DOG commission will select four. The authors will benefit from the reimbursement of travel expenses by a flat-rate sum of 1000 euros.

Grants for courses :

At the end of the Franco-German symposia, one of the French lecturers is rewarded by a Grant of 2000 euros from the SFO, which is intended to finance a period of several weeks attached to a German hospital (similar Grants are awarded by the DOG to German lecturers for periods of time spent in France). Information concerning the dates, places and subjects of the symposia are announced by advertisements and published in the Conference programme. They are announced under the Welcome heading of Current Events on the SFO website. They are always available from the Assistant General Secretary of the SFO, who is in charge of International Relations and whose name can be found under the heading on the website concerning the Executive Committee of the SFO.
